Little princess

February 27th, 2008

there was a lil impwhose name was lil princess .

who made your sit up and think

with her stories and verses.

She could make you roll with laughter

cos she had a whacky sense of humor

but she loathed inane chatter

which could get the better of her temper.

She had a smile which was disarming

Was child like at heart and endearing

Her love for life was alluring

and her free spirit fascinating.

She had her surreal moment when epiphany struck

Her timidity nothwithstanding

She was swept off her feet

by her own Prince Charming

and oh it was all so quick.

Lessons from life??

December 8th, 2007

Life is empty and meaningless.  It all means nothing.

Dont be an onlooker, go out and play the game.

 Integrity means keeping your word.

It is not who you are that matters but what you are being.

Guilt is a huge burden to bear, forgive yourself.

Love yourself for what you are for I am comfortable with you only if you are comfortable with yourself.

Try, try, and try till you succeed???? you either do it or you dont where did this try come in between.

vivid imagery

December 8th, 2007

The soaring eagle, the moon-drenched night, the sun-dappled courtyard, the dew-drenched green grass, the dark and stormy night, the calm after the storm, the sun-kissed beaches, the wind-swept dunes.

C’est l’amour

December 8th, 2007

The furtive look, the glimmer of a smile, the glistening eyes, the soaring spirits, the sweet elation, the confusion, the roaring in the ears, the singing in the veins, the quickened heartbeat at the fleeting touch and the chance encounter

The river of life

December 8th, 2007

Life is  a like a river flowing inexorably on, relentlessly, through crevices and canyons, over pebbles and stones, sometimes abruptly falling away as a waterfall tumultous, raging, powerful and destructive and sometimes over verdant plains meandering along in lazy curves giving life and sustenance, flowing inexorably on as destined, with no control over the course or the journey or the obstacles encountered till finally it conjoins with the ocean;  deep, vast, powerful, and eternal.

Ennui

December 8th, 2007

Oh this boredom !!

This mindnumbing sameness around

work, work, and more work

no time to reflect, no time for leisure.

The mindnumbing television, the relentless web pages, chatting mindlessly and endlessly,

appearing to listen but not caring.

the endless quest for material things

the bragging and boasting,

conceited vanity, empty minds and souls.

This fatigue setting in of the mind, spirit, and body.

forlorn, bleak, inexorable, and endless

making u question the raison d’etre

The ennui sets in grappling with your soul,

muffling out all sparks, snuffing out the remains

of your once active creativity

the joie de vivre that was once life.

Ironic!

I saw a news feature which had Ms. Sonia Gandhi addressing the UN on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and asking them not to take Gandhi lightly and Rahul Gandhi was also shown and I also saw a headline in a newspaper Brand Gandhi goes global.  It meant Rahul Gandhi’s first appearance in an international meet as a political figure from India.

Set me wondering.  What about the actual descendents of Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi.  Should not they have been the ones to have been invited to speak on the occasion.  And Ms. Gandhi is not even the President or Prime Minister of India nor did she know Gandhi personally.  She happens to be the leader of the coalition party ruling India.  With due respect to Ms Sonia Gandhi in what capacity was she invited to address the UN meet and how come the media is connecting her surname Gandhi with the original Mahatma.

There is no harm in her addressing the UN as a political leader of the ruling party from our country but still ironic to think that among all the other leaders available she should be chosen and just because her son had Gandhi surname in his name will his identity be mistaken as having to do something with the actual Gandhi whereas he is connected to the Nehru family.

Brand Gandhi????  and I thought Gandhiji was opposed to capitalism and materialism of any sort and yet his name has not only helped make a movie a blockbuster with a term gandhigiri being coined but now he is being used to advantage in politics internationally too to some people’s advantage.

Memories revisited

May 15th, 2007

Today met up with my cousin’s cousin.  We grew up together and had a nice time.  Met her after quite a long while.   We remembered the summer vacations with cousins, simple delights like being taken to the park, being given ice creams, watching movies on video which made us very nostalgic.  Made me realize how precious relationships are.  It is so rare to find people whom you can share things with and be yourself.

As you grow up, get married, and move away from your immediate circle of family, friends, and relations, you realize over the years how much you took people for granted, how much love and affection you had and at that time how little you valued them.

Set me thinking.  In today’s fast paced world where relations are rapidly taking back seat, kids are more computer savvy, play stations and computers are the norm and they do not even get to experience extended families.  I wonder how it will affect them.  They wont have any fond memories of granny telling stories at bedtime and fighting with cousins for the previlege to sleep next to her every night, finding out delicacies made and hidden by her for fear that we will finish it all off in one day, taking turns are riding the rented bike, etc, etc.

But then maybe they will have other memories of their own to cherish.  How am I to know.  Maybe they would find all the above pretty boring and very uncool!  Only time will tell.

Nostalgia

May 15th, 2007

Today afternoon as I was sitting on my computer and transcribing medical reports, I just happened to look up out of the window and was struck by how beautiful it was.  There was brilliant sunshine, a light breeze, sun dappled leaves, palms swaying in the breeze, and then strains an old Hindi song, a favorite of my dad’s wafted in on the breeze.  I was so stuck by the beauty of the moment.  It was so quiet and peaceful.  I just wanted to sit back and gaze outside and savor the moment.  Reminded me of my childhood days spent in my grandma’s house in a small town called Trichur.

Afternoons were my favorite time of the day.  All adults would be napping.  We kids would settle down with books to read, or go stand in the balcony and watch the road empty and quite with mellow sunshine and breeze, or just play quietly, climb trees to pluck gooseberry, let the air out of neighboring bully’s cycle, generally have a nice time.  Good old days those.
